Redwood Regional Medical Group Surgeon Selected as Surveyor

04/15/2010

Santa Rosa – The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) has asked Dr. Charles Elboim, Breast Surgeon and Medical Director of the Redwood Regional Breast Center at Redwood Regional Medical Group, to serve as a surveyor of breast care practices throughout the country. The NAPBC represents a consortium of national, professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring of outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast. This mission is pursued through standard-setting, scientific validation, and patient and professional education.

The organization oversees a process for Breast Centers throughout the United States to become accredited. Dr. Elboim will work with a survey team to evaluate accreditation applicants and verify that they have met the very difficult standards of the process. Accredited programs must include such components as interdisciplinary patient management, compliance with quality indicators, a breast conservation program, quality imaging, a patient navigator and much more.

Dr. Elboim also recently gave two lectures to physicians at a national breast imaging meeting through the Institute for Advanced Medical Education; one on breast and ovarian cancer genetics and another on oncoplastic breast surgery.

Redwood Regional Medical Group is the largest privately owned physician organization in the Northbay region consisting of 10 medical campuses with 41 physicians and more than 300 care providers. As a leading radiology/oncology/surgery practice, Redwood offers a complete and integrated approach to cancer care, serving more than 500 patients daily in Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino and Lake Counties.
