Dr. Steven Smith graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Southern California, receiving a B.S. in Biology, went on to medical school and then completed his residency in orthopedic surgery in 1986 at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. He has been certified, and recertified twice by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. His last recertification in Adult Reconstructive and General Orthopedic Surgery was January 1, 2009 and is valid through December 31, 2018.

Dr. Steven Smith practiced orthopedic surgery in Santa Rosa from 1987- 2008 specializing in Adult Reconstructive Surgery and Sports Medicine, in addition to General Orthopedics.

In 2008, he moved to Fallon, Nevada practicing at Banner Churchill Community Hospital. During his time in Fallon, Dr. Smith had the honor of working closely with the physicians at the Fallon Naval Air Station, which is the home of the Navy’s Top Gun facility and only remaining supersonic range. Dr. Smith provided care to active Navy personnel, their dependents, and military retirees. While in Fallon, Dr. Smith was honored as a Distinguished Visitor on the USS Nimitz, a nuclear aircraft carrier, for 3 days performing maneuvers off San Diego prior to deployment.

Dr. Smith joined Redwood Regional Medical Group in 2010, establishing their Orthopedic Surgery Section with Dr. Briant Smith.
