After graduating with honors with a B.A. in Pharmacology from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and then receiving a Masters in Pharmacology from UCSB, Dr. Briant Smith completed his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He did his residency at UCSF in Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Smith accepted a position at Kaiser Permanente in Santa Rosa where he served as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery for several years and also as Chair of the Orthopedic Chiefs Group for the Permanente Medical Group. For the past 15 years, he has been involved in musculoskeletal education and orthopedic implant contracting. In 2010, Dr. Smith joined Redwood Regional Medical Group, forming the new Orthopedic Surgery Section for the Group with Dr. Steven Smith. He specializes in joint replacement as well as sports medicine and general orthopedic surgery. He is the only orthopedic surgeon in the North Bay to offer Birmingham Hip Resurfacing, having trained in Birmingham, England on this bone-conserving procedure that potentially allows active patients a continued higher activity level. Dr. Smith has been a guest lecturer as well as an Assistant Clinical Professor in Family and Community Medicine at UCSF.He and his wife reside in Santa Rosa enjoying outdoor sports, winter and summer.
